A member of the North American Fiddlers Hall of Fame, J.J. Guy is a well-known
Canadian fiddler, hailing from rural Saskatchewan. His playing is deeply rooted in
the traditions of the prairies from growing up playing old-time dances and
competing in fiddle competitions.
Throughout his twenty years playing professionally, he has released eleven
albums and has been part of many projects - the most recent being a duo called
Twin Fiddles, formed with Gordon Stobbe in 2015. This projects plays from coast
to coast in Canada and shares original tunes inspired by the many stories they
have from their adventures on the road. In the past couple of years, Twin Fiddles
travelled to Switzerland for Festa Federale Della Musica Popolare and played
Celtic Colours in 2024.
J.J. Guy is not only a performer but also a passionate educator and mentor,
dedicated to passing on the joy of fiddling to anyone looking to learn. His
summers and winters are often filled teaching at fiddle camps, and his Sundays
are spent on his online jam, “Jamming with J.J.,” where he plays fiddle tunes with
fellow musician Cathy Sproule. Starting in 2020, the jam has created a weekly
space for over 2000 people to come together and play music.
Since winning the 2013 People’s Choice Award at the Canadian Grand Masters,
he has joined the CGM Board of Directors and helps foster the next generation of
Canadian fiddlers.
